Deception Pass – Quarry Pond

Our first camping trip with our trailer was to the Deception Pass Quarry Pond campground with our daughter’s Girl Scout troop in June 2017. Quarry Pond campground is located on the east side of Highway 20, while the park entrance is on the west side of the highway for check-in. Cranberry Lake and North/West Beaches are also on the west side of the highway.

  • Great for groups: Cabins, RV sites (water/30 amp), shared open lawn and tent camping available within close proximity to one another.
  • Quarry Pond campsites are spacious compared to the Lower Loop and Forest Loop on the west side of the highway.
  • Dump station near park west entrance. Free with reservation.
  • Short distance to Deception Pass Marina, but please be aware of why it’s called Deception Pass before you launch your boat.
  • Gas station with small grocery located within walking distance of Quarry Pond, Seabolt’s on Highway 20. They sell ice and propane as well as Deception Pass themed kitsch.

  • You will likely need to drive to Cranberry Lake and the Beach from Quarry Pond if you have small children. To cross the highway, you will need to walk to the intersection and cross at the light.

Must do:

  • Beach time! Head over Cranberry Lake and North & West Beaches for an afternoon.
  • Walk Deception Pass bridge if you dare!
  • Drive over to Bowman Bay and hike around the hills. Don’t get caught on the rocks if the tide comes in!
  • Take a deep breath. The fresh Pacific Northwest air is healing to your soul!

Good to know:

  • Amenities such as restaurants and grocery stores are located 11 miles south on Highway 20 in Oak Harbor.
  • Pets allowed.
  • Cellphone coverage spotty, nearly non-existent.
  • You need a Discover Pass.
  • Reservations: Washington State Parks
